“Mass Elite is for committed, motivated, and remarkable players who play for THE LOVE OF THE GAME! Mass Elite extends an opportunity for all players who love lacrosse to play year round in very competitive environments, whether it be at a practice or a tournament. Mass Elite was founded to enable the players in the state to improve their game, learn, and to prepare themselves to play at the next level.
My biggest motivation is now seeing the girls and boys who started Mass Elite in 1999 play at the college level and be competitive and successful. I am excited to have extended an opportunity to Mass players to develop and grow to be top players in the country.
Mass Elite has remarkably talented players with astounding attitudes and a staff of coaches that are the finest in the state! Mass Elite is a pleasure to be involved with and I am excited for the future of Mass Elite and its evolution!”
An except from Leslie's eulogy...
"In scripture when the Prophet Micah was asked "How does God want us to live our lives?", his reply was ……."This is what the Lord asks of you, only this, to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God." Paula lived her life just like that along with great courage and strength. She has truly been an inspiration and example to so many of us.
Paula and I met at a youth lacrosse coaches meeting when are daughters were very young. We went on to coach at our respective high schools, Paula at Scituate and me at Westwood. A couple of years later, Paula coached the Bay State games -- that first ‘bad news bears,” full of heart team ( Nicole, Tara, Christine Ryan, Kate Jones, Megan, Elizabeth, Dwyer fire and the Milton crew) would become the first travel girls lacrosse team in Massachusetts.
Paula had a vision and she realized pretty quickly that picking up your stick each spring was not going to be enough to compete with the other more established lacrosse regions. So she started fall and winter leagues, training programs, tournaments and a travel team, Mass Elite.
Our business was so much fun, so many laughs, such unbelievable coaches, so many precious children, so many memories. It was a patchwork quilt of beautiful memories. Each square of the quilt such a vivid memory; kent island tournaments, lake placid teams, teams from England coming over to play, Christmas parties, final four week-ends, lunches at Ricks or not your average, Xtreme where ME boys and girls could get to know each other, kristen’s alphabet song for 6 hours, QS camps tents up and down, Road trips and on and on…
Paula’s faith, Paula’s love and Paula’s vision has to become our vision…. to do everything that we can to help our players, learn from this amazing, courageous woman. To carry on the vision, the dream and to try to make sense of this terrible loss is our challenge.
Paula would want me to thank everyone for all of your beautiful messages and kindnesses to her family and for all of your support, some of our very first players and families have come to see Paula last night and are here today, it means so much. Paula has a deep faith in God and her prayer group has brought her so much comfort in these last few months. On her computer is this quote, “Our life is a gift from god, what we do with it is our gift to God.”
Paula's dream and vision is ours to cherish and uphold. We are all so sad, so very very sad, but she will continue to guide us, pack our parachutes and remind us to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with our God."
